News update (as of Oct 28'2009) :

Information from the Whatcom County Sheriff Department regarding Project Santa Claus. The program is in the process of reorganizing this year and will only be able to provide limited resources for the holidays. The program will be offered for the county schools only----in the same one day format as the Bellingham Police Department offers Shop with a Cop for the Bellingham District. Bellingham Police Department has already notified the schools chosen for Shop with a Cop this year. If your children are currently enrolled in county schools, please contact the local administrative office for further details about this year's participation for your family.

The Sheriff’s Department is hopeful that by next holiday season (2010) they will have a full volunteer staff on board and will be able to once again offer the county wide program we have known from previous years.

This is another reminder that many of the services and agencies we have referred families to in the past are all struggling with staff and program cut backs. Everyone is trying to do the best they can with very limited resources.
